The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster® (A-CSM) is for you if you have your CSM and want to expedite the journey to greater agility on the Scrum Alliance Path to CSP. Unlike many, with our A-CSM you learn with a group of peers in a live session.

The CSM introduced the basics, now go deeper into scaling, empiricism, coaching, soft-skills, root cause analysis, XP Engineering, and Kanban .

Your trainer has over 20 years agile experience so your challenges and opportunities are reviewed in a profound, but practical, way. This is in sharp contrast to superficial concepts delivered by inexperienced agile trainers.

After the session we register you with the Scrum Alliance. If you have more a year of agile work experience, have the CSM Cert, and complete this session, you achieve the A-CSM designation, and are one step away from CSP-SM.

Policies

Grow-Lean has policies to protect you, fellow students and Grow-Lean.

Familiarize yourself with these policies and use our Contact Us Form if you have any questions.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policies

Overview of Cancellation Policies

Grow-Lean has policies around situations where you as an attendee, or Grow-Lean as a host, must cancel or reschedule. Grow-Lean's policies are consumer-friendly in recognition that unforeseen things happen, but Grow-Lean asks for thoughtfulness about canceling late so Grow-Lean can continue to put their customers first.

By registering yourself or others for the session, or by being a registrant, you agree to the policies below. If you have any questions, please contact Grow-Lean.

Cancellations

Cancellation requests received at least sixteen (16) days prior to the event will receive a 100% refund minus a 5% credit card processing fee.

Cancellation requests received fifteen (15) to eight (8) days prior to the event will receive a 100% refund minus a 5% credit card processing fee and a $125 late cancellation fee.

Cancellation requests received seven (7) or less days prior to the event will receive a credit equal to 50% of the amount paid that can be applied to any future event that the registrant will take in the next twelve months.

Reschedule Requests

Reschedule requests received at least sixteen (16) days prior to the event will have no fees for the first request. Additional reschedule requests will be subject to a $125 transfer fee.

Reschedule requests received less than sixteen (16) days prior to the event will be subject to a $125 transfer fee.

Grow-Lean Reschedule Events

Grow-Lean tries to avoid rescheduling. If Grow-Lean needs to reschedule, all registrants will promptly receive a 100% refund. Registrants may decide to be transferred into the rescheduled event, or another upcoming event, instead of the refund if they desire.

Grow-Lean Trainer Substitution

In the event where the original listed trainer cannot deliver the course, Grow-Lean reserves the right to substitute a trainer. This is a rare occurrence, but this policy allows Grow-Lean to deliver a course while minimizing the student impact. Trainers provided in this event will have met Grow-Lean's high quality standards to ensure registrants receive valuable training.

Discounts

Options for your circumstances

Request your discount on the session (a class on date/time with a trainer) you want. If more than one discount applies explain in your comments.

You can pay in installments by choosing Splitit at checkout.

For Grow-Lean Alumni, log in or use your account email when registering, and receive an automatic discount. If you also qualify for another discount, request it, and, if your email matches, we know you are an alumni.

If you have a Visa or Mastercard credit card you can pay in monthly installments. There are no fees or interest if you pay on time! Your available credit must be enough to cover the full cost and there is a hold on your credit card for the amount that you have not paid.

For example, if your final fee is $999 and you choose three installments:

  • You would pay $333 today and have a $666 hold placed on your credit card.
  • The following month your credit card would be charged another $333 and the hold would be reduced to $333.
  • Your final payment would be $333.

If you are not familiar with the term "hold" this is similar to what hotels do when you check in, to cover extra expenses you may incur including the mini bar.

The benefit to you is that you do not pay any interest or fees if all payments are on time.

After entering your request you may email us at Grow-Lean-Training@Grow-Lean.Com or call us +1.609.975.9294 for questions.

David Bulkin

Scrum Alliance: CST | CSP-SM | CSP-PO | CAL 1 | SAFe: SPC | PMI: PMI-ACP

David Bulkin is the Managing Director and Head of Training Services at Grow-Lean. He has 40 years of product development experience and stays current by continuing to engage in product development. In 2001, his eBanking Team at JP Morgan Chase implemented Agile practices under the guidance of Kent Beck, the father of Extreme Programming (XP). David left the bank to help grow the Agile community.

David supports teams and individuals in their Agile journeys as a mentor and coach. Unlike most trainers and coaches, he remains actively involved in product development, taking on roles such as designer, coder, tester, Product Owner, and Scrum Master. His hands-on experience and high-energy level ensure that you get practical and applicable insights in a fun, lively environment.

David's extensive background spans various industries, including manufacturing, marketing, sales, finance, and more. David started developing in 1984 when he built a package to simulate Major League Baseball games and run a fantasy league. After that, he worked on various development projects for the US DoD. In the early 1990s, he built an Internet startup that delivered some of the first profitable sites on the web. In the late 1990s, he joined JP Morgan Chase, where, in 2001, he led eBanking development using agile methods.

He was an independent reviewer of the original PMI-ACP body of knowledge and contributed to the Certified Scrum Master Exam questions. His thought leadership in 2009 on progressive elaboration for Agile requirements influenced what is now known as refinement, which was incorporated into Scrum in 2011.

David has trained over 20,000 students and influenced thousands more through public speaking and coaching. He delivers various training courses, including CSM, A-CSM, CSPO, and A-CSPO, and has trained over 10,000 students with the Scrum Alliance. His sessions are practical, energetic and fun, and based on his experiences in big and small organizations, David customizes the training for your needs so you get a practical perspective that can significantly boost your career.

Advanced Certified ScrumMaster

Unlike other providers' sessions, our A-CSM course stands out as a true advanced, 100% live, interactive, slide-free, workshop experience. Experience the difference with our dynamic sessions, where you benefit from 46 exercises that help learn new techniques for coaching, facilitation, teaching, and mentoring. You review multiple frameworks including Kanban, XP, SAFe, LeSS, and S@S. You learn directly from a seasoned trainer and a group of experienced peers.

Key Details

Benefit from Deep Agile Experience of Your Trainer

Live and Interactive

Not all A-CSM Sessions are equal. With many you work on your own, with little classroom interaction. Some sessions lack intellectual depth, with all theory and no practice.

In our 100% live session you gain new techniques to facilitate, teach, mentor and grow you, your teams, and your organization.

You will leave ready to practically apply empirical approaches to grow your team and organization horizontally (across role and function) and vertically (scale).

You learn from David Bulkin, an agile expert, who still actively builds product as part of an agile team.

This workshop is 100% live, with over 30 exercises, and is built from the collaborative efforts of of the Grow-Lean Training Team, ensuring you get the perfect mix of theory and practice.

Practical and Real

  • You’ll see how tools and mental models used in class can also be used when forming teams and to and collaborate more fluidly with teams and stakeholders.
  • You’ll review basics, like walking a task board, but with a new, enlightened, perspective, so you can return to work with opportunities for improvements.
  • As one example, we will review Conway's Law and review it's practical impact when you are creating team of teams.

Grow Your Career, Grow Your Organization

What You Learn

The topics are covered in an advanced manner. For example, for the Scrum Events we review patterns, allowing you to identify what is appropriate for your environment. Perhaps the Daily Scrum should go column-by-column, right to left, instead of person-by-person to focus on getting a small number of items all the way to done. In all cases, instead of theory only, we make the topics tangible so you can employ them in your workplace.

All of the samples shown below have embedded exercises. You are seeing the result. Most topics start with an exercise followed by deep discussion and problem solving.

Thrive Despite Uncertainty

Thrive Despite Uncertainty

What is a Complex System?

Organizations are complex systems with people, process, technology (including AI), behavior, etc. The interplay between the parts creates uncertainty. Use Scrum to address uncertainty.

Complex Systems Game

The sample shows a game to learn basic around complex systems. We then go deeper with real-world examples.

Learn to use Scrum to Thrive with Uncertainty

Most people need a refresh, how Agile and Scrum can address uncertainty, so we start there before going deeper, ensuring you leave with a actionable ideas.

Go Beyond Scrum

Go Beyond Scrum

Scrum is not the Only Answer

We cover how Extreme Programming and Kanban can complement Scrum for team level agility. So, if you think you need to choose Kanban or Scrum, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Scaling with SAFe, LeSS & Scrum@Scale

Per the sample we also cover scaling, dispelling the myth of choosing one framework. For example, Scrum@Scale has popularized a Scaled Daily Scrum (SDS) where one or two members go up a level to the next SDS. This occurs till you reach the C-Level. A SDS can be added to almost any organization.

Grow Your Organization

Grow Your Organization

Make Everyone Better

Ultimately a ScrumMaster aims to make every better. Learn approaches to facilitate, mentor, teach and coach individuals and teams.

Making Conflict Constructive

Invariably, along the way, those you are helping with have conflict. The game shown identifies conflict resolution approaches. We build on that and cover how to move from destructive (think blame passing) to constructive conflict, where we debate issues, learn from each other, and avoid personal attacks.

Build Great Product

Build Great Product

Be Effective, Not Efficient

Don't misuse Scrum as an efficiency paradigm. Figure out what to build, for whom, in which sequence, and what to learn along the way.

Use Story Maps to Plan

The sample shows a Story Map to visualize a users path through our system to sequence stories across our workflow and releases (align strategy and tactics).

Help Your Product Owner...
  • Create Positioning Statements defining what our product will / won't do.
  • Delegate story details so they can focus on strategy and experiments.
  • Align to value instead of to plan.

Why choose David as a Trainer?

Live Online Workshop with an Agile Expert.

If you want to take a live online A-CSM Workshop you have options, but, one thing you can't get with the others is David Bulkin who:

  • Has been actively applying agile since 2001 when his team at JP Morgan Chase applied XP for eBanking development.
  • Has been building product since 1984.
  • Still is part of an agile product development team, filling various roles at different times.

Because you will...

  • Experience a blend of exercises, real-world case studies, engaging games, deep problem solving, and more.
  • Oscillate between theory and application to illustrate the gap between what is possible most often done in business environments.

Because you get...

  1. Deep discussion and learning.
  2. A 100% live collaborative session.
  3. Meaningful answers to questions.
  4. Case studies and real-life examples.

Plus, you will laugh! We provide edutainment so that you have energy that drives retention.

Practice Quizzes?

There is no exam, but the quizzes reinforce learnings

You might remember taking your CSM Exam. Although there is no exam for the A-CSM or CSP-SM you can still get significant benefit from our quizzes as the review the CSM material and go beyond, covering advanced topics.

  • The practice quizzes are active learning that increases retention.
  • They apply what cognitive science calls retrieval practice.
  • Retrieval practice makes learning challenging which helps you remember the material.

If you have time prior to the session use them as a refresher. Or perhaps, during the session you notice some weak spots and review the quizzes post class to fill in the knowledge gaps.
